I count myself as lucky. I have always been surrounded by books, encouraged to read and to share my reading with others.
Learning to read – and how our attitudes to reading for pleasure are formed – is something that I have only reflected on since having children. As a mother I am acutely aware of the value I want my children to place on reading, and my role in fostering this. As an English teacher – who all too often is told ‘books are boring’ – I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to help others come to savour their experiences of reading.
